Presentation Description: Green Hydrogen projects are quickly becoming the next phase of critical infrastructure projects to develop, permit, and educate the public on. As the large-scale hydrogen hubs are being developed across the country, smaller scale and rural projects tied to behind-the-meter renewable energy facilities will follow quickly behind to take advantage of production incentives. We are at a pivotal time to develop educational outreach programs and best management practices to expand the conversation and provide collaborative opportunities for permitting experts, regulators, owners, communities, designers, contractors, and other stakeholders to make more informed decisions about the sustainability of the proposed infrastructure.
This session will use the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure's Envision framework to make key project sustainability criteria recommendations regarding best management practices and early planning efforts related to green hydrogen permitting. Social, economic, and environmental indicator parallels will be integrated into this assessment compared to typical local land use permitting and California Environmental Quality Act permitting requirements. The session will also include an interactive survey to expand the conversation and engage members and the public in the collaborative effort to determine appropriate criteria.
