Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council (Permitting Council)
Alexis Segal currently serves as Director of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs at the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council (Permitting Council). The Permitting Council is charged with improving the transparency, predictability, and outcomes of the Federal environmental review and authorization process for certain large-scale critical infrastructure projects. Before joining the Permitting Council team, Alexis served for eight years as Senior Policy Advisor for Environment and Natural Resources for Senator Dianne Feinstein of California. Her portfolio included public lands, oceans, infrastructure, climate change, toxics and chemicals and landscape scale restoration initiatives. Prior to joining Senator Feinstein’s team in 2016, Alexis was Deputy Associate Director for Land and Waters at the White House Council on Environmental Quality. There, she worked across the federal agency family to advance large-scale ecosystem restoration priorities across the U.S. among other responsibilities. Before coming to DC to work in federal policy, Alexis co-founded and led a water quality and conservation organization focused on marine and coastal areas in South Florida facing challenges such as infrastructure, port safety and climate change as well as community engagement and development initiatives. A graduate of Georgetown University and Emory University Law School, Alexis also received her masters in environmental law from University of Florida School of Law in 2013.
