David Young currently serves as a Principal Biologist for WEST, and has worked for WEST providing science based environmental consulting services since 1992. Dave’s specialty area is in Endangered Species Act compliance as well as the study of wildlife and renewable energy. He began his work with wind power in 1995 at the Foote Creek Rim wind project in Wyoming and has since studied wind and wildlife interactions throughout the U.S., Canada, and Latin America. His experience runs the gamut from due diligence and pre-construction Tier 1 assessments through post-construction monitoring and specialty research studies. Over the past 15 years his focus has been on Endangered Species Act compliance for wind and other energy projects, and most recently, he has turned his focus to investigating ways in which the industry can benefit from the wealth of information that has been collected over the years and changing the wind power and wildlife study paradigm to benefit industry, agencies, and wildlife resources.
