Cheyenne, Wyoming
Dr. Amanda Hale is a broadly trained ecologist and a Principal Biologist at WEST, working from the Texas area offices. Amanda’s interests are in animal behavior, evolution, genetics, and conservation. Since 2008, her primary research focus has been on the impacts of wind energy development on birds and bats, examining displacement from wind turbines in grassland birds, investigating several hypotheses to explain why bats may be attracted to wind turbines, and testing strategies to reduce bat mortality at wind turbines. Amanda is the Science Lead for the WEST Bat Practice Group and provides technical support regarding bat adaptive management, impact minimization efforts, and impact assessment for a wide range of projects. Since joining WEST, Amanda has managed a small number of post-construction monitoring projects in support of technical assistance letters and incidental take permits. She continues to advance efforts to improve impact minimization efforts and understand the relationship between bat behavior and collision risk.
