Establishing Vegetation at Utility-Scale Solar Sites

The rapid growth of utility-scale solar throughout the United States accompanied by rapidly changing standards for revegetation has exposed a critical need for increased planning and communication between project stakeholders both early on and throughout the project lifecycle in order to achieve desirable vegetation outcomes. Failures in vegetation establishment most often result from unrealistic expectations, inadequate planning, poor understanding of ecological conditions, construction schedules, incompatible construction practices, contractor limitations, and a lack of adaptive management. This panel will explore the lifecycle of utility-scale solar developments from the perspective of vegetation establishment and management and how increased planning and communication between project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle can help to address project uncertainties and achieve desirable vegetation outcomes.
